Adelaide Zoo
Zoo School provides Year 4-7 students with an opportunity to visit the Zoo for 2 or 3 days to combine Education Officer lessons with their own time in the zoo for a fun and educational experience.
The program is negotiated between the Teacher and Education Officer and provides each class with an average of 1 ½ hrs of Education Officer input each day. A classroom in the Education Centre is provided for the class to use as a base during their Zoo School Program. The program is designed to offer a combination of lessons and activities that complement their school program as well as providing the students with experiences they would not normally get at the zoo, e.g. Behind the Scenes visits. Besides the lessons and simply enjoying the zoo, students use self-directed trails that provide more opportunities to learn.
Popular lesson topics include Behind the Scenes (Food Store), Threatened Species, Role of the Zoo, Enclosure Design and Frog Observation, however, any topic can be catered for.
