The current amphibian extinction crisis is one of the greatest conservation challenges in the history of humanity. We are on the verge of losing much of an entire vertebrate class and the window of opportunity to stem the extinctions is closing.

The global zoo and aquarium community has taken on this challenge, but implementation costs money and requires political support from all corners of the world. Faced with this challenge, the Amphibian Ark is launching this global Amphibian Ark campaign – 2008 The Year of the Frog, and ARAZPA institutions are proud to be participating in this campaign.
The main goal of this campaign is to generate public awareness and understanding of the amphibian extinction crisis which represents the greatest species conservation challenge in the history of humanity. Money raised by fundraising efforts will help fund initiatives such as taxon survival efforts, fostering partnerships and capacity building activities being undertaken by ARAZPA members. A target of AU$400,000 has been set for institutions in the region during the twelve month Year of the Frog Campaign.
The official launch of ARAZPA’s Year of the Frog campaign will be at the 2008 ARAZPA Conference at Taronga Zoo in March, and a wide variety of amphibian-related presentations will also be given at this time.
