Zoos Victoria
This program has been designed to provide students with an opportunity to collect first-hand data which can be used to complete a practical activity or research report on reproductive systems, development and growth and assisted methods of reproduction in animals.
The study focuses on marsupials and placental mammals. Students are required to utilise key skills and knowledge to interpret the structural, behavioral and physiological adaptations needed for reproduction and development within species and to ultimately ensure their survival. Students are asked to investigate the adaptations of animals related to establishing territory, courting and rearing young. Gathering information on how the populations of animals are managed at the Zoo and of captive breeding programs for various endangered species is also an important component of the program.
