Taxonomy Specialist Advisory Group

Convenor: Paul Andrew, Taronga Zoo

The Taxonomy Advisory Group operates in the capacity of advisor to the Zoo and Aquarium Association office, ASMP Committee and the Board, on issues relating to taxonomy.

Although there are few taxonomy specialists in the region, there are many people making animal management decisions based on taxonomic definitions.

The convenor invites those people to become active participants of this group, and to take part in the decision-making process. A key function of this group will also be to promote a wider understanding of:

  • taxonomic principles
  • the ways in which taxonomic advice is provided
  • the rationale behind the management units recommended by Taxon Advisory Groups
  • other relevant issues.

Membership Eligibility: Membership to the Taxonomy Specialist Advisory Group is open to Full Individual Zoo and Aquarium Association members and people working in zoos and aquariums.
