Non-Passerine Bird TAG

TAG Convenor: Chris Hibbard, Taronga Zoo

The Non-Passerine TAG covers birds excluding New Zealand native birds.  Non-Passerine birds are classified as such as they do not perch, for example emus, cassowaries, ducks, and penguins.
  The TAG currently covers the following taxonomic groups:

  • Brolga

  • Casuariidae  - cassowaries
  • Dromaiidae - emus
  • Spheniscidae - penguins
  • Podicipedidae - grebes

  • Anhingidae - darters
  • Phalacrocoracidae - cormorants
  • Pelecanidae - pelicans
  • Ardeidae - egrets, herons, bitterns
  • Threskiornithidae - ibis, spoonbills

  • Phoenicopteridae - flamingos
