The Invertebrate TAG covers both native and exotic terrestrial invertebrate species. Aquatic invertebrates are managed under the Aquatic TAG, and invertebrates endemic to New Zealand are managed under the New Zealand Fauna TAG. The Invertebrate TAG monitors collection plans of member institutions but currently this TAG does not include any managed programs.
The focus of the Invertebrate TAG is on husbandry and display, with emphasis on conservation, research and education. More than any other animal group, invertebrates urgently require research to learn even the most basic facts about their life history and husbandry, yet they have the greatest potential to teach students and the public about biology, ecology and evolution.
