Monotreme and Marsupial TAG

The Monotreme and Marsupial covers Australian native monotremes and marsupials as well as Papua New Guinea fauna. The following taxonomic groups are included in the TAG:

  • Tachyglossidae - echidnas
  • Ornithorhynchidae - platypus

Dasyromorphia

  • Myrmecobiidae - numbats
  • Dasyuridae - antechinus, quolls, dibblers, phascogales, Tasmanian devils, dunnarts
  • Peramelemorphia
  • Peramelidae - bandicoots, bilbies

Notoryctmorphia

  • Notoryctidae - marsupial moles

 Diprotodontia

  • Phascolarctidae - koalas
  • Vombatidae  - wombats
  • Phalangeridae - possums
  • Potoroidae Bettong - potoroos
  • Macropodidae - tree-kangaroos, wallabies, kangaroos
  • Burramyidae - pygmy-possums
  • Pseudocheiridae - ring-tailed possums
  • Petauridae - gliders
  • Acrobatidae - feathertail gliders

Issues for this TAG include:

  • facilitating where appropriate overseas interest in exhibiting Australian natives
  • institutional involvement in recovery programs
