Currumbin Sanctuary
Currumbin Sanctuary is in a unique location. Located on the Gold Coast, within a two kilometre radius of the Sanctuary, a variety of habitats can be found. These include a surf beach, rock pools, man-made groin, mangroves, estuary and sand dunes.
We are currently developing a program which will take secondary students into these local environments as part of their field study requirements (10 hours) before visiting Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to investigate more habitats including woodlands, rainforests and freshwater systems. Students may be guided through each area by CWS Education staff and a number of other specialist consultants or teachers may choose to guide students themselves with the support material provided. Students will be required to identify plants and animals in each system, classify them and observe both environmental and human influences on each of them and their specific habitat.
Teachers may organise for their students to visit one or more of these areas. We will be able to design a program specific to both teacher and student requirements. CWS Education staff will have support materials available for each area so whilst each school visit may differ according to their needs, a visit to each area will be supported by staff, resources and will follow a certain structure.
