Zoo and Aquarium Association
Annual Conference
16th March – 18th March 2010
Healesville Sanctuary and RACV Club, Victoria

Healesville logo

Zoos Victoria is proud to be hosting the 2010 Zoo and Aquaria Association (previously the Australasian Regional Association of Zoological Parks & Aquaria) conference at the recently renovated RACV Country Club. We have changed the style of the conference slightly from past years – keeping it punchy, stimulating and interactive whilst encouraging a high level of papers. To achieve this we have shortened the conference to three days, leaving a pre-conference day dedicated to the specialist groups and for tours of Healesville Sanctuary and our Threatened Species programs. An extra day following the conference is included to encourage support of the Yarra Valley tourism industry following the devastating fires of February 2009.

Registration

Early Bird Registration is now open until 7 February 1010!

The theme of the Conference is: The ‘C’ drivers of our Zoos and Aquaria: conservation, collection, community, culture, care and communication. These ‘C's’ may well define the role of our organisation in the future:

Collection
Developing sustainable zoo and aquaria collections that fulfill a conservation purpose and work for all businesses through cooperative partnerships.

Care
Delivering best practice animal care and well being, through appropriate infrastructure, capacity and expertise.

Conservation
Maximising our contribution to biodiversity conservation in both Wildlife Conservation and Community Conservation.

Community
Connecting and engaging our communities in activities that support tangible conservation and environmentally sustainable outcomes.

Culture
Respecting the diverse and rich cultures of our populations and committing to engaging people in a variety of ways that honours culture and history.

Communication
Increasing public knowledge and awareness of the essence of the role of Zoos and Aquaria through communication to and with all levels of stakeholders.
