Artiodactyl TAG

TAG Convenor: Leif Cocks, Perth Zoo

Artiodactyls are the "even-toed ungulates".  The Artiodactyl TAG covers  the following taxonomic groups:

Giraffe

  • Suidae - pigs
  • Tayassuidae - peccaries
  • Hippopotamidae - hippos
  • Camelidae - camels, lamas
  • Tragulidae - mouse deer
  • Giraffidae - giraffe
  • Cervidae - deer
  • Bovidae - antelope, cattle

Two of the biggest issues for this TAG are:

  • importation of antelope species and Philippine Spotted Deer into Australia
  • effective male management strategies
