The new branch resulted from a merger between ARAZPA and the Queensland Wildlife Parks Association (QWPA). In 2002, the QWPA membership voted to disband as a separate organisation and become the ARAZPA Queensland Branch (ARAZPAQ). This represents a significant step towards the vision of a singlerepresentative zoo and aquarium body for the region.
The current ARAZPAQ Management Committee is:
- President - Michael O'Brien, Cairns Tropical Zoo
- Vice President - Kelsey Mostyn, Australia Zoo
- Secretary - Al Mucci, Dreamworld
- Treasurer - Matt Hingley, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
- Committee Member - Terry Carmichael, The Rainforest Habitat
- Committee Member - Paul Masse, Kuranda Koala Gardens
- Committee Member - Martin Page, Ipswich Nature Centre
The agreement recognises the separate function of the Queensland Species Management Program (QSMP), which will continue to serve Queensland members (both full institutional and otherwise).
